Getting to School

School Transport -  Stop.Swap.GO! – Getting to school information now live!

During August, Essex County Council's  information service that brings together all the options and guidance on travel to school was launched – you can find it here.  There is a whole variety of information; whether it’s operator contact details, how to cycle or walk to school or what the rules are on wearing face coverings on transport.  They will continuously update this throughout August and September; including maps to secondary schools that include local information from the school survey.  They particularly want to avoid parents deciding to drive their children to school as this will cause gridlock during the rush hour.

PARK AND RIDE SCHEME

The school also operates a Park and Ride scheme.  This provides a free Harlow District Council permit for free parking in Wayre Street carpark / Spicers Lane permit area on school days between 8:30-9:15 and 15:00-15:30 so that you can park without having to get a ticket and then walk your child to school.  To register for this, please collect a form from the school office.

CYCLING

A cycle shelter is provided for those who wish to cycle.  Permission should be sought from the Office before using this facility.  (Click here for application form)  Children should wear a cycle helmet and follow the road safety codes and an adult should escort younger children.  Cycles should be padlocked and are left at the owner’s risk.  The school offers Bikeability training for pupils in Y6 to promote safe cycling.

BIG PEDAL

This year we took part in an Essex run scheme called the Big Pedal.  Children and parents were encouraged not to use a car for their journey where possible, but walk, cycle or scoot instead.  We were very pleased with the result and were top of the Harlow schools participating.  Please click on the link below to see the video published.

PARKING

The car park is for staff, visitors and permit holders only and must not be used by parents when delivering and collecting their children at any time.  There is a public car park close by in which parents should park.  Click here for more details.

If you are unable to walk to school or use the public car park and walk, please be considerate to our neighbours if you choose to park in nearby roads.  Do not:

  • block drives or garages
  • park on pavements therefore blocking access for pushchairs/wheelchairs
  • park on green areas

Please do not park on the road outside the school, this is a red route, and you will be fined.  Parked cars on the corner of junctions make it difficult for pedestrians and other road users to view on-coming traffic.  The parked cars also cause congestion, which increases the possibility of an accident occurring.

All children should be delivered and collected from the playground gates.  Arrangements should not be made to meet parents elsewhere as an accident could easily occur while unsupervised children are looking for their parents’ cars.
